In cooperation with Wismar University (Hochschule Wismar), AIDA Cruises offers an innovative educational concept for three Bachelor’s courses of studies at the Department of Maritime Studies in Warnemünde, Germany. There are excellent entry and future opportunities for graduates on board the AIDA fleet, whether as nautical, technical, or electro-technical officers up to chief engineer or captain.

Bachelor of Nautical Science / Maritime Transport

Bachelor Nautik/Seeverkehr

You can start your career on board as an officer of the watch with the Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science/Maritime Transport.

As nautical officer of the watch, you are the right hand of the captain. Your scope of responsibilities during watch duty on the bridge primarily consists of navigation of the ship and monitoring the general ship safety.

Before your studies, you will complete a 12-month training course as a nautical officer trainee on board, as well as on the training sailing ship "Großherzogin Elisabeth", followed by the three-year course of studies at the Department of Maritime Studies in Warnemünde. The semester curricula include natural sciences, maritime English, as well as ship's management, navigation, and maritime traffic safety.

Bachelor of ship operation dual

With the Bachelor of Science in the discipline of ship operation (dual) you can start a career on board as a technical officer of the watch.

As a technical officer of the watch, you monitor and ensure the operational reliability of all machinery and systems on board.

This dual course of studies is a cooperation between AIDA Cruises, the Güstrow Vocational School, the AFZ Rostock and Wismar University. It takes a total of five years and, in addition to ship operation, it contains the professional training for mechatronic engineer. In the first three years, you complete the mechatronic engineering training, including an onboard internship and a one-year basic course at Wismar University. In the two academic years that follow, you will study the specifics of ship operation, enhanced by specialized knowledge of cruise ship systems.

You will furthermore receive cruise-specific supplemental lectures and individual mentoring at the AIDA Academy. You will not only gather valuable nautical experience during the internships on board the AIDA fleet, but after the five years of studies with integrated training, you will have earned the certificate of competence as a technical officer of the watch. You now have the ideal prerequisites in order to pursue your career up to chief technical officer and Chief Engineer at AIDA Cruises.

Bachelor Electro-Technology

Bachelor Electro-Technology

With the Bachelor of Science in the discipline of electro-technology you can start your career as electro-technical officer on board.

As electro-technical officer, you are responsible for the running, maintenance and repair of the complex electro-technical and electronic machinery and systems on board, and thereby ensure their smooth operation. In the first studies section, you will devote yourself to the fundamentals of mathematics, informatics and physics, and will receive an introduction to electro-technology. Moreover, in this time you will complete a four-week onboard internship. Building on this, the main study period will bring detailed knowledge of electro-technology, electronics, as well as automation and control engineering.

You will furthermore receive cruise-specific supplemental lectures and individual mentoring at the AIDA Academy. As a rule, the course of studies takes three and a half years and is completed with the Bachelor of Electro-Technology.
